Question

Q. How does the density of liquid change with the rise in its Temperature?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

When we heat a liquid, the molecules of the liquid gain kinetic energy and starts to move more vigorously which causes them to move farther apart form one another. This results in the increase in overall volume of the liquid but mass of the liquid remains constant.
Since, density =massvolumedesnity is inversely proportional to volumeSo, an increase in the volume of the liquid results in decarese in the density of the liquid.
To conclude, in general the density of liquid decreases with increase in the temperature of the liquid.
