Solution

The correct option is D 1, 2 and 3

Explanation:

Indian political system is based on the Westminster style of government. Articles 74 and 75 deal with the Parliamentary system of government at the Union level and Articles 163 and 164 contain provisions with regard to the States.

There were the following reasons for our Constitution-makers to adopt the Parliamentary system:

  • The Parliamentary system has its origins in the British colonial rule as India was governed by the governor-general with his executive council. It was later extended and a new body for legislative purposes was created. This body over the period of time became our Parliament.
  • Being a diverse country, India needs an inclusive institution to fulfill the aspirations of millions. Our Parliamentary system ensures regional representation by selecting candidates from different parts of the country.
  • Our founding fathers have seen the authoritarian government during British rule, hence there were apprehensions and doubts about the president system as it can be easily converted into authoritarianism.
  • But in the present system, the executive is responsible to the legislature and can vote it out in a motion of no confidence, there is no authoritarianism.

Hence all options are correct.
