Why in news?
A movie is being released on Tanaji Malusare who is popularly remembered in Maharashtra for the Battle of Sinhagad that took place in the year 1670.

Battle of Sinhagadh
In the year 1665, the Treaty of Purandar was signed between Jai Singh and Shivaji.

Amongst several demands, the treaty had required the Maratha ruler to give up Fort Kondhana to the Mughals. Located near Pune, the fort was one of the most heavily fortified and of high strategic importance. After it was taken over by the Mughals, the fort was guarded by Rajput, Pathan and Arab troop guards and was said to be impenetrable.

The idea of Mughals taking control of the fort is said to have deeply disturbed and enraged Shivaji’s mother Jijabai. Upon knowing this, Shivaji entrusted Tanaji, the only man he could think of capable of reconquering the fort Kondhana at any cost.

A fierce battle is said to have taken place between the Rathore and Tanaji. The two clashed for a long time. Malusare was gravely wounded in the fight and died. Enraged by the death of their general, the Marathas fought under the leadership of his brother, Suryaji Malusare, and eventually vanquished the enemy. The fort was renamed as Singhagad (lion’s fort) by Shivaji to honour Tanaji.

सिंहगढ़ की लड़ाई:

कई मांगों के बीच, संधि ने मुगलों को फोर्ट कोंधना देना मराठा शासक के लियुए ज़रूरी था। पुणे के पास स्थित यह किला सबसे भारी किलेबंदी वाला और उच्च सामरिक महत्व का किला था। मुगलों द्वारा इसे कब्जे में लेने के बाद, किले पर राजपूत, पठान और अरब टुकड़ी के पहरेदार मौजूद थे और उन्हें अभेद्य कहा जाता था।

कहा जाता है कि मुगलों के किले पर नियंत्रण करने से शिवाजी की माता जीजाबाई को बहुत दुःख हुआ और वे इससे क्रोधित हुई। यह जानने के बाद, शिवाजी ने तानाजी को यह काम सौंपा, कि वह एकमात्र आदमी था जो किसी भी कीमत पर कोंधना के किले को वापस लेने में सक्षम था।

कहा जाता है कि राठौड़ और तानाजी के बीच भयंकर युद्ध हुआ था। दोनों में काफी देर तक झड़प हुई। मालुसारे लड़ाई में गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गए और उनकी मृत्यु हो गई। अपने जनरल की मृत्यु से क्रोधित होकर, मराठों ने उनके भाई, सूर्यजी मालुसारे के नेतृत्व में लड़ाई लड़ी और अंततः दुश्मन को मार गिराया। तानाजी को सम्मानित करने के लिए किले को शिवाजी द्वारा सिंहगढ़ (शेर का किला) के रूप में नामित किया गया था।
