Solution

GIANT CHROMOSOME:

When the demand of any particular amino acid in a cell or organism increases, then amplification in the gene takes place i.e., there is an increase in copy number of genes to fulfill the demand of amino acid, making the chromosome giant.

Types of GIANT CHROMOSOME:

  1. Lampbrush chromosome:
  • Found in primary oocytes of vertebrates and invertebrates.
  • They have master gene ( regulates the function of slave gene ), slave gene , loop hair ( they contain newly formed RNA or nascent RNA).

2. Polytene/ Salivary gland chromosome:

  • Found in the cell salivary gland of Drosophila .
  • Chromosome with many chromatids.
  • Formed as a result of non- disjunction of chromosomes during anaphase.
