Solution

The correct option is C 1 and 3 only

Explanation:

Cause 1 is correct: The British had gradually introduced a uniform and modern system of government throughout the country and thus unified it administratively. Besides, the introduction of the new means of transport and communications (railways, telegraph, and postal system) had brought the different parts of the country together and promoted mutual contact among the people, especially among the leaders. This unification was, of course, done by the British in their interest. Yet it did facilitate the rise and growth of the nationalist movement in India.

Cause 2 is incorrect: During the first phase of INC its leaders had faith in British rule, hence they didn’t make the demand of Swaraj or Purna Swaraj.

Cause 3 is correct: Religious and social reformers, namely, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Keshab Chandra Sen, Debendranath Tagore, Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar, Swami Dayanand Saraswati, Ramakrishna Paramhamsa, Vivekananda, and others had left a tremendous influence on the people of India, and by pointing to the rich cultural heritage of India, created among the Indians self-confidence and respect for their religions and culture. In this way, they were able to counter the British propaganda that the Indians had never been able to rule themselves in the past and that Hindus and Muslims had always fought one another, and Indians were destined to be ruled by foreigners.
