Dear student,
The type of the cell division required for the growth and repair of the body is mitosis which is also called as the equational division in which the chromosomes number remains the same and thus same type of the cells are formed by the mitosis division.

For the formation of the gametes, the meiotic division is required which is also called as the reductional division in which the chromosome number is reduced to half. Thus, it occurs in the diploid cells to form the haploid gametes like sperm and ovum.
