Q. Why sodium peroxide is used as an oxidising agent in inorganic chemistry , since sodium is a strong reducing agent ?

Remember some points
Increase of O. N is oxidation
Decrease of O. N is reduction
The elements which is undergoing oxidation is reducing agent
The element which is undergoing reduction is oxidising agent
Now in Na2O2(sodium peroxide) O. N OF SODIUM is +1 and it cannot increase its oxidation no. to +2 +3…. . So it will decrease its oxidation state from +1 to zero.. Now look at point 2 and 4.. Decrease of oxidation state is reduction and element who undergoes reduction acts as an oxidising agent
