Explanation: Certain areas which were retained by the Sultans under their direct control were called Khalisa. The territories of the Sultanate were divided into two parts - Khalisa and Jagirs. The revenues collected under khalis were spent for the maintenance of the royal court and royal household. The lands were often con­verted into jagirs and vice versa. Also the extent of such lands varied from time to time. For example, under Jahangir the extent of khalisa lands were reduced, but subsequently Shah Jahan in­creased it.
