The overexploitation of ground water resources can have very adverse consequences.

1. Due to overexploitation, the ground water reserves gets depleted.

2. As a result, drinking water can become scarce making the area unfit for human habitation.

3. The process contributes to desertification as without groundwater, trees cannot grow. This, in turn, causes soil erosion and turn the area into a desert.
