Question

Q1. Balance the following chemical equations:

NaOH+HSO24NaSO24+HO2

Open in App
Solution

Balancing of chemical equation:

Step 1: Write unbalanced equation.

NaOH+HSO24NaSO24+HO2

Step 2: Write down the number of atoms of each element present on both reactant as well as product side.

Element Reactant side Product side

Na 1 2

O 5 5

H 3 2

S 1 1

Step 3: Add coefficients to balance the number of atoms at both the sides

Firstly balance Na at reactant side by adding 2 before NaOH

2NaOH+HSO24NaSO24+HO2

Secondly add 2 before HO2

2NaOH+HSO24NaSO24+2HO2

Balanced equation is:

2NaOH(aq)+HSO2(4aq)NaSO2(4aq)+2HO2(l)

Sodium hydroxide Sulphuric acid Sodium sulphate Water
