Solution

Dear Student,

i) The deficiency of thyroxine hormone is the main cause of goitre. It leads to an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland.

ii) Iodised salt is mainly sodium chloride (NaCl).However it also contain some additives which supply iodine such as sodium or potassium iodide (NaI or KI) and sodium or potassium iodate (NaIO3 or KIO3). Iodine stimulates the thyroid gland to produce thyroxin hormone. Therefore, it is advised to take ionised salt instead of normal salt.

iii) Professionalism and knowledge are the two values shown by the Dr Kumar.
