The textile industry consists of four types of textiles.
1. Cotton textile industry: Cotton textile industry in the western part of India, mostly the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat. Major centres of cotton textile industry are Bombay, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu.
2. Jute Industry, which is found in Bihar and Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
3. Silk Industry, which is found in Karnataka (Mysore), West Bengal (Murshidabad) and Uttar Pradesh (Varanasi).
4. Wool Industry, which is found in found in in the northern Indian states, mainly Punjab and Haryana.
