Q44. Dave purchased 150 bales of cotton at Rs. 70 per bale. He spent Rs. 500 on the transportation, paid octroi at the rate of 40 paisa per bale and paid Rs. 140 to the coolie. What must be the selling price per bale to have a gain of 20%?

Total cost = 150 × 70 + 500 + 0.4 × 150 +140

= 150 × 70 + 500 + 60 + 140

= 150 × 70 + 700

= 160 × 70

Sales revenue for profit = 160 × 70 × 1. 2

Selling price = 160×70×1.2150=16×14×.4=89.6

Note that gain% is to be calculated on total cost not just cost of cotton.
