Heat of fusion of a substance is the amount of heat in calories or Joules required to melt one gram of a substance. The heat of fusion depends on the intermolecular forces of attraction in the solid state. These forces hold the molecules together as a solid. Heats of fusion are usually higher for substances with higher melting point.
