Theslopeof a line is the ratio of the amount thatyincreases asxincreases some amount. Slope tells you how steep a line is, or how muchyincreases as x increases. The slope is constant (the same) anywhere on the line. A slope is a rate of change. If your vertical coordinate represents the temperature of a room and your horizontal coordinate represents time, then the slope of your line represents the rate at which the room's temperature changes over time. For example a slope of +5 means the room heats up by 5 degrees every second (I'm assuming you measure time in seconds). A slope of -2 would mean that the room is cooling down by 2 degrees every second, and so on....
