Question

Question 1 (iii)
Solve the following pairs of equations by reducing them to a pair of linear equations:
4x+3y=14
3x4y=23

Open in App
Solution

4x+3y=14
3x4y=23
Putting 1x=p in the given equations, we get
4p + 3y = 14
4p + 3y - 14 = 0 ---(i)
3p - 4y -23 = 0 ---(ii)
By cross-multiplication, we get
p6956=y42(92)=1169
p125=y50=125
Now, p125=125 and
y50=125
p = 5 and y = -2
Also, p=1x=5
x=15
So, x=15 and y = -2 is the solution.
