Why do we classify organisms?

There are millions of species on this earth. The diversity of living organisms is also huge. As such, it is rather cumbersome to study about each of them in his lifetime. Therefore, we look for similarities among them and classify them into classes to study these different classes as a whole. Thus, classification makes it easy to study the organisms, on the basis of certain common characters.
