Question 10
What would be the consequences of a deficiency of haemoglobin in our bodies?
Transport of oxygen in the body is mainly facilitated by the pigment known as haemoglobin present in the red blood cells (RBCs). Therefore, deficiency of haemoglobin in the blood can affect the oxygen supplying capacity of the blood. This can lead to the deficiency of oxygen in the body cells and ultimately lead to a disease called anaemia. The average haemoglobin content of blood, irrespective of sex, is 14.5 gm per 100 ml.
