Total number of students = 1800

Number of students who opted basketball = 750

The ratio of number of students who opted basketball to the total number of students

= $\frac{N u m b e r o f s t u d e n t s w h o o p t e d b a s k e t b a l l}{T o t a l n u m b e r o f s t u d e n t s}$

$= \frac{750}{1800} = \frac{5}{12} = 5 : 12$ [Dividing numerator and denominator by HCF of =750 and 1800 i.e. 150]
