Under what conditions permanent electromagnet is obtained if a current carrying solenoid is used? Support your answer with the help of a labelled circuit diagram.

When a soft iron coil is placed inside a current carrying solenoid, an electromagnet is obtained. To make a permanent electromagnet, we need to use a material which would multiply the magnetic property of the solenoid to many folds. A ferromagnetic material can hence be used instead of the soft iron core.
