Organic food items are produced by organic farming. Organic farming in general features cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that foster cycling of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity. Simply stated, organic products are grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms, or ionizing radiation. Even animals that produce meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products are not given antibiotics or growth hormones for their growth.
