Fraction means a part or a region of something.
In the figures given above the shaded regions represent a fraction of the whole part.
However, the shaded regions do not represent the given fractions.
The triangle is not divided into two equal parts.
For the figure given above, if we want the coloured region to represent 12 then we must divide it into two equal parts and colour one of them.
We should note that if we want to colour a given region and represent a fraction the:
(i) Divide the figure in d equal parts where d is the denominator of the fraction we want to represent.
(ii) Colour n parts, where n is the numerator of the fraction we want to represent.
All the figure given above are not divided into equal parts.
Hence, they do not represent the given fractions.
