$(0.4 p - 0.5 q)^{2} = (0.4 p)^{2} - 2 \times 0.4 p \times 0.5 q + (0.5 q)^{2}$
$[U s i n g i d e n t i t y (a - b)^{2} = a^{2} - 2 a b + b^{2}]$
$= 0.16 p^{2} - 0.40 p q + 0.25 q^{2}$
