What is genetic manipulation? How is it useful in agricultural practices?
Genetic manipulation is the incorporation of new genes (for some desired phenotype) for various traits from other genotypes into the crop variety so as to bring about desired changes. It is carried out through hybridization, mutation breeding, and DNA recombination technology.
Uses in agricultural practices:-
(a) Used to develop a new variety of a crop which has the high yield.
(b) It helps to produce better quality, shorter and early maturing plants.
(c) It is used to provide better adaptability to plants.
(d) Used to produce disease-resistant plants.
