Question 56
How does fertilisation take place? Fertilisation occurs once in a month. Comment.
During sexual intercourse, the sperm enters through the vaginal passage and moves upwards. Egg released from the ovary reaches the oviduct where tge sperm encounters the egg. The process of fertilisation (fusion of sperm and egg to form zygote) takes place here.
Fertilisation occurs only once a month because of a simple ovum release by female roughly in the middle of the menstrual cycle which has a span of 4 weeks. Therefore, fertilisation can occur only once in a month.
