And office closes at = 5 : 30 PM
Total hours of office = 5 : 30 PM - 9 AM = 8 h 30 min
Lunch break = 30 min
Ratio of lunch break to the total period
$=\frac{30min}{8h30min}$
= $\frac{30min}{(8\times 60+30)min}=\frac{30min}{510min}$ [$\because$ 1hour = 60min]
= $\frac{1}{17}=1:17$ [on dividing numerator and denominator by 30]

Hence, the ratio of lunch break to the total period in the office is 1 : 17.
