To gain 25% after allowing a discount of 10%, the shopkeeper must mark the price of the article which cost him Rs. 360 as

Let the marked price of the article be Rs. x.
Cost price of the article = Rs 360
According to the question,
$x-x\times \frac{10}{100}-\frac{25\times 360}{100}=360\Rightarrow x-\frac{x}{10}-90=360$
[ $\because$ discount is always calculated on marked price and profit is always calculated on cost price]
$\Rightarrow \frac{9x}{10}-90=360\Rightarrow \frac{9x}{10}=360+90\Rightarrow x=\frac{450\times 10}{9}\Rightarrow x=Rs.500$
So, the marked price is Rs 500.
Hence, option (a) is correct.
