Question

Question 7 (i)
P and Q are respectively the mid-points of sides AB and BC of a triangle ABC and R is the mid-point of AP, show that:
(i)ar(PRQ)=12ar(ARC)

Open in App
Solution

Construction: Join PQ, RQ and RC.

QP and QR medians of triangles QAB and QAP.
ar(ΔQAP)=ar(ΔPBQ) ------- (1)
And
ar(ΔQAP)=2ar(ΔPQR) --------- (2)
From (1) and (2), we get,
ar(ΔPBQ)=2ar(ΔPQR) ------- (3)
ar(ΔARC)=2ar(ΔPQR) ------ (4)
ar(ΔPQR)=12ar(ΔARC)
Hence,
ar(ΔPQR)=12ar(ΔARC)
