Question 7
Which part of the alimentary canal receives bile from the liver?
(a) Stomach
(b) Small intestine
(c) Large intestine
(d) Oesophagus
(b) Small intestine
The duodenum is the first segment of the small intestine and the stomach releases food into it. Food enters the duodenum through the pyloric sphincter in spurts so that the amount released is just right for the enzymes in the small intestine to act upon and digest. The duodenum receives pancreatic enzymes from the pancreas and bile from the liver and the gallbladder. These fluids which enter the duodenum through the sphincter are important in aiding digestion and absorption.
