Gamma radiation consists of electromagnetic waves like X-rays and visible light. It is a part of the electromagnetic spectrm with a minute wavelength in the order of pm(1012 m). Gamma radiation is emitted when the daughter nucleus or parent nucleus returns to its normal state from its excited state of a nuclear reaction. The excess energy is released in the form of EM radiation. Gamma emission wouldn't result in a change of the atomic number or the mass number of the nucleus.
