Any physical or chemical condition (such as excessive heating, freezing, chemical treatment, etc.) cannot alter the rate of disintegration of the radioactive substances. This clearly shows that the phenomenon cannot be due to the orbital electrons which could be easily affected by such changes. The phenomenon should, therefore, be the property of the nucleus. It is the spontaneous emission of radiation from unstable nuclei.
