Rain seems to be falling to a person sitting in a bus moving uniformally eastwards with 10 m/s. It appears to come from vertical and hit the bus windows at a velocity 20 m/s. Find the velocity of rain drops with respect to the ground.

Let $V_p$ be the velocity of the person and $V_{rp}$ be the velocity of the rain w.r.t the person.

Velocity of rain w.r.t ground,$V_r=\sqrt{V_{rp}^2+V_p^2}$

$=\sqrt{400+100}=\sqrt{500}=22.36m/s$
