Question

Rajasthan is a desert state in India. Once while travelling to Rajasthan by train, Boojho observed several streams and rivulets of rainwater during the journey but to his surprise he did not see streams of water in the desert region even during rains. Help Boojho find a suitable explanation for this.

Solution

  • Deserts are barren lands having vast stretches of sand as the rainfall is scanty.

  • In sandy soil, the size of soil particles is large due to which water percolates faster.

  • Due to poor water holding capacity, the rainwater directly goes downwards in the gaps between sand particles.

Hence, due to this, he did not see streams of water in the desert region
