Raju covers 3 km of distance each day. How many centimetres does Raju covers each day?
We know that 1km = 1000m
Therefore 3 km = 3 × 1000 m
= 3000 m
Now we know that 1m = 100 cm
Therefore 3000 m = 3000 × 100 cm
= 300000 cm
So, Raju covered 300000 cm in a day.
Method 2
We can also solve this problem using a measurement table.
Looking at the table
When we convert a larger unit (km) to a smaller unit (m) we multiply by the conversion factor.
Therefore to convert 3 km to meters we have to multiply 1000
I.e. 3km = 3 x 1000 m = 3000 m
Now again to convert 3000 m to cm we have to multiply by 100
3000 m = 3000 × 100 cm = 300000 cm
Answer = 300000 cm.
