We have,

$d = 12 k m = 12000 m,$

$t = 40 min = 40 \times 60 = 2400 sec$

We know that

$s p e e d (s) = \frac{d}{t}$

$s = \frac{12000}{2400}$

$s = \frac{12000}{2400}$

$s = 5 m / sec$

Hence, this is the answer.
