Ram bought an article for ₹ 374 , which included a discount of 15 % on the marked price and a sales tax of 10 % on the reduced price. Find the marked price of the article
₹ 400
Let the marked price of the article be x, discount = 15 %
∴ Amount of discount = ₹ x × 15100
∴ Cost of the article after discount = ₹ ( x - 3x20) = 17x20
Since the sales tax is 10 % on reduced price
Amount of sales tax = ₹ 17x20 × 10100 = 17x200
∴ Net amount to be paid = ₹ 17x200 + 17x20
Given that the amount paid = ₹ 374
∴ 17x200 + 17x20 = 374
x = ₹ 400
