If the verdict is a prison sentence of more than four years, it can be appealed at the High Court. An appeal can be made if the case is with the Sessions Judge, and the accused is acquitted. If the High Court feels that any lower court has overstepped its jurisdiction, it can review the case. The High Court can call for records of all cases from the subordinate courts. Then, if it finds any case that matches the above two criteria, it can take appropriate action - strike down the judgement, or change the verdict. It can ‘revise’ the judgement. The revisory jurisdiction of Supreme Court is provided under Article 136 of the constitution.
