Solution

  • Asphyxia or suffocation is a medical condition that emerges either due to an interruption in normal breathing or inadequate oxygen supply to the body. Without oxygen, cells of the body stop working properly and eventually resulting in unconsciousness and often death.
  • Coal is an amorphous form of carbon.
  • When carbon-containing compounds are burnt in the absence or limited supply of oxygen-carbon monoxide is formed, which is highly toxic.
  • Since the room in which ram is sleeping is closed, means there is a limited supply of air/oxygen.
  • Therefore, the burning of coal resulted in the evolution of carbon monoxide in the room which will eventually affect ram causing asphyxia to him.
