Solution

Step 1: Given Data:

Nominal value of Bihar Steel's shares, N1=100

Dividend of Bihar Steel's shares, D1=8%

Market value of Bihar Steel's shares, M1=130

Nominal value of Jindal Steel's shares, N2=50

Dividend of Jindal Steel's shares, D2=12%

Market value of Jindal Steel's shares, M2=75

Increase in Ramesh's annual income=360

Step 2: Calculate the sale proceeds of Ramesh:

Let us assume that the number of shares sold was n1.

Saleproceeds=Numberofshares×Marketvalue

=n1×M1=n1×130=130n1

Step 3: Calculate the number of Jindal Steel's shares bought:

Let us assume that the number of shares bought was n2.

Numberofshares=InvestmentMarketvalue

n2=SaleproceedsM2=130n175=26n115shares

Step 4: Calculate the annual income from Bihar Steel's shares sold:

Annualincome=Numberofshares×Nominalvalue×Rateofdividend100

A1=n1×N1×D1100=n1×100×8100=8n1

Step 5: Calculate the annual income from Jindal Steel's shares bought:

Annualincome=Numberofshares×Nominalvalue×Rateofdividend100

A2=n2×N2×D2100=26n115×50×12100=104n110

Step 6: Calculate the difference in the annual incomes of Ramesh:

As it is mentioned that there is an increase in the annual income therefore annual income from Jindal Steel's shares bought is greater than the Bihar Steel's shares sold.

Differenceinannualincomes=A2-A1

=104n110-8n1=104n1-8n1×1010=104n1-80n110=24n110

According to the question, the increase in Ramesh's income is 360

360=24n110

n1=360×1024n1=150shares

Final Answer: The number of shares sold by Ramesh is 150 shares.
