We have

total no. of pages in book will be $12\times 8=96$

now he reads $16$ pages per day, he have to read total $96$pages

$16\times x=96$

$$\begin{gathered} x=\frac{96}{16} \\ x=6 \end{gathered}$$

Hence he needs $6$ days to finish whole book.
