Rashi soaked her table cloth in the mixture of alcohol and water, on exposure to heat quickly catches fire which gets extinguished after a short while without burning the cloth. Why is it so?
The ignition temperature of cloth is higher than that of alcohol.
The ignition temperature of alcohol is lower than that of the cloth. When exposed to heat, alcohol catches fire. The heat produced due to the burning of alcohol is not sufficient to raise the temperature of the wet cloth to its ignition temperature. Thus, the fire gets extinguished after alcohol is burnt and the cloth remains unburnt.
