To accommodate maximum molecules of Haemoglobin, mature RBCs have no cell organelles, most importantly nucleus and mitochondria. They have nothing to dictate their repair as there is no nucleus and due to lack of mitochondria they cannot use the oxygen they carry. They are destroyed in the spleen as they get old or damaged.
