Solution

The correct option is B Isocyanate, carbene
Reactants of reaction I are:CH3CONH2, KOH, Br2

Reactants of reactionII are : CH3NH2, CHCl3, Alcoholic KOH

The intermediate species of reactionI and reaction II are Alkyl isocyanate, carbene respectively.

The first reaction is the Hoffmann bromamide degradation reaction in which an amide is treated with bromine and aqueous or alcoholic NaOH or KOH to give a primary amine-containing one carbon atom less.

The second reaction is Hoffmann's carbylamine test/isocyanide test, in which aliphatic or aromatic primary amines on heating with chloroform and alcoholic potassium hydroxide give foul-smelling alkyl isocyanides or carbylamines. Secondary or tertiary amines do not give this test.

Option B is correct.
