Read the assertion and reason carefully to mark the correct option in question.

Assertion: Golgi apparatus remains in close association with the endoplasmic reticulum.

Reason: A number of proteins synthesised by ribosomes on the ER are modified in the cisternae of the GM before they are released from the trans face.

Solution

The correct option is B

If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

Assertion: Golgi apparatus remains in close association with the endoplasmic reticulum.

Elaboration: In cells, the Golgi apparatus is frequently found close to the ER. The protein formed by ribosomes to the ER. The proteinn formed by ribosomes travels from the ER to the Golgi, where it is modified before being delivered to various locations in the cell, such as the lysosomes and the cell membrane.

Reason: A number of proteins synthesised by ribosomes on the ER are modified in the cisternae of the GM before they are released from the trans face.

Elaboration: ER has ribosomes attached with them which form proteins. These protein are sent usually to the cis face of Golgi bodies for further modificaitons. The chemical modifications help in despatch to the correct destination. After modification, the proteins are packed and released from the trans face of the Golgi bodies.

Final answer: If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.
