Assertion-Reason relation

Growth of an organism involves increased protoplasm synthesis, cell division, cell enlargement.

Higher plants possess specific areas which take part in the formation of new cells. These are called meristems. Plant growth is localised because of the presence of meristems. Cells of the meristematic tissue have the ability to divide and self perpetuate. Thus plants have an open form of growth.

Differentiation is the process in which the cells mature to perform specific functions.
