Solution

The correct option is B Three
Ringing/Girdling experiments demonstrate that the phloem is responsible for translocation of food because the phloem is present outside the xylem. So, when a ring of bark is removed from a woody plant, the woody xylem part remains intact, which causes the water and the nutrients to reach the leaves.

Different environmental conditions have an effect on transpiration rate in plants. Warm conditions, wind and bright sunlight speed up transpiration rate. Cool conditions, no wind and humidity slow down transpiration rate.

In young roots, water enters directly into the xylem vessels and/or tracheids. These are nonliving conduits so are part of the apoplast. Once in the xylem, water with the minerals that have been deposited in it (as well as occasional organic molecules supplied by the root tissue) move up in the vessels and tracheids.

Water flow in the roots occurs via the apoplast because the cortical cells are loosely packed and hence offer no resistance to water movement.
Hence the correct answer is (B)
