A pilus (pili) is a hair-like appendage found on the surface of many bacteria for attachment to the surface and also as an appendage required for bacterial conjugation. All pili are primarily composed of oligomeric pilin proteins.
Ribosomes are naked ribonucleoprotein particles. The eukaryotic ribosomes have a sedimentation coefficient 80S while prokaryotes have 70S type of ribosomes. The ribosomes found in mitochondria of eukaryotes are of 70S type. The membrane-bound cell organelles like nucleus, chloroplast and mitochondria as well as cytoskeletal structures are absent in prokaryotic cell.
