Interspecific hybridization is the practice of mating male and female animals of two different related species. It is of considerable economic value. In most cases, the progeny may combine desirable features of both the parents, so they are different from the parents.

One of the example is a mule which is produced by performing a cross between a female horse (mare) and male donkey. Mules are harder than their parents and are well suitable for hard work in mountain regions. But they are sterile.
