Solution

The correct option is C 3
Fossil fuel is a natural fuel such as coal or gas, formed in the geological past from the remains of living organisms. Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and petrol are fossil fuels that are used as automobile fuels.

As a measure to reduce high air pollution in Delhi, one of the major steps taken was switching over the entire fleet of public transport, i.e., buses, from diesel to compressed natural gas (CNG).

This has been done because of the following advantages of CNG over petrol or diesel:
  • CNG burns most efficiently compared to petrol or diesel, in automobiles and very little of it is left unburnt.
  • CNG is cheaper than petrol or diesel.
  • CNG cannot be siphoned off by thieves.
  • CNG cannot be adulterated like petrol or diesel.
Hence three of the given statements, B, C and D, are incorrect and statement A is correct.

The problem mainly faced with switching over from petrol or diesel to CNG was the difficulty of laying down pipelines to deliver CNG through distribution points or pumps to ensure uninterrupted supply.
