Solution

The correct option is B A, B and D
Global warming refers to the rise in the Earth’s temperatures. It is caused by increased concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, mainly from human activities such as burning of fossil fuels, farming etc.

The global mean temperature increased by 0.6°C due to global warming. The moisture carrying capacity of the atmosphere is also expected to increase due to warming of the atmosphere. Due to this the troposphere will warm up and the stratosphere will cool down. This would cause a change in the pattern of air movements and precipitation patterns. Climate changes will result in droughts, floods, forest fires, cyclones, etc.

Hence statement A is correct and C is incorrect.

Global warming also contributes to a rise in sea level due to the melting of glaciers and Greenland ice sheets. Several low-lying lands may be submerged due to this. This will have a negative impact on human settlements, tourism, fisheries, agriculture and animal populations.

Hence statements B and D are correct.
